The recipient of the 2012 Young National Designer Award at LMFF, Christopher Esber, delivered a world-class fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia last week.
The 23 year old constructed a performance that ultimately transformed the catwalk, catapulting it to another realm. After four days of attending shows inside the Theatre we were treated to a surprise as Esber had reconfigured the runway, placing three separate mirrored patricians (not the ordinary kind, those ones that skew with your body shape and play tricks on your eyes). The climatic music also added intensity to the environment.
When the show finally began it was hard to even grab an iphone snap as the models darted swiftly like daggers firing towards the pit of photographers. But the collection was truly incredible. Impressive garment construction with clinical and fetishistic undertones.
In terms of materials Esber employed hard-edge leather with juxtaposing sheer fabrications. Key looks included: tunic tops, modest hemmed dresses, slim-cut trouser, high necked collars, over-sized outerwear and slick tailored separates.
His authentic approach to design and the theatrical presentation of this collection sets Christopher Esber on the path of international recognition.
